I'm Richard Widmark, owner of Pearson's Custom Finishing. My father and I grew up in the painting trade, learned from my grandfather, Axel, who arrived in the states from Sweden in 1895. Our lives had been devoted to painting and decorating when I bought Pearson's Custom Finishing to add to our list of high quality services.
Arvid Pearson started Pearson's Custom Finishing in 1960 after also having been a painting contractor for many years. I always brought my finishing work to him for the high quality work he was able to produce in his specialized shop. Then, in 1995, he was ready to retire, so I asked where I should bring my finishing work in the future. He suggested I just do my client's work myself at his shop. In the end, I bought the shop and he stayed on for several years to impart his knowledge. Thus, Pearson's Custom Finishing continues to serve the north shore of Chicago with the highest quality furniture finishing in the business.
What we do is so specialized, that many of our clients are professional painters, just like I was when I came to Pearson's for my own clients work. We have customers who have been with us since the beginning.
I grew up on the north shore and attended Northwestern University where I lettered in football and baseball. Then, after the Navy, I went on to speed skating and won two world championships in Cycling and Barrel Jumping.
